Mentor, coach, elementary TAP assistant, program assistant
Program and job description
The Tenley Achievement Program, started out of the Tenley Study Center, offers a summer program for over 150 4th through 10th grade inner city DC boys. The program stresses character development through rigorous sports and academic activities. The program runs Monday through Friday from 9:30am to 4pm.
Mentor:
a) Responsibilities: work one-on-one with students, helping them set goals, advising them in their character development, and fostering lasting friendships with them.
b) Requirements: mentors must show a high level of personal responsibility and character; previous experience working at TAP is encouraged; normally only rising college freshmen or above are considered for this position.
Coach:
a) Responsibilities: coach a team of 8-12 boys in basketball, football, and soccer.
b) Requirements: previous experience playing on organized sports teams; previous coaching experience is encouraged; normally only rising high school seniors or above are considered for this position.
Elementary TAP assistant:
a) Responsibilities: help run all the sports and activities for the eTAP program with a group of other assistants; help with tutoring during academic classes.
b) Requirements: previous experience working at camps or other youth programs is encouraged; normally only rising high school seniors or above are considered for this position.
Program assistant:
a) Responsibilities: assists the Program Director in office-related responsibilities; also helps in sports, activities, and field trips where needed.
b) Requirements: proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel encouraged.
Salary
Mentors: $1600 - $1900, depending on experience.
Coaches: $1300 - $1600, depending on experience.
Program assistants: $1300 - $1600, depending on experience.
